Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The study participants were obese volunteers with hyperuricemia who met the following criteria: 1. aged 18–65 years old 2. adult BMI >= 28, or total body fat percentage >= 25% for men and >= 30% for women 3. serum uric acid > 340 umol/L for women and > 416 umol/L for men 4. no use of weight-loss or uric acid-lowering drugs in the past 3 months.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with secondary hyperuricaemia 2. Patients who have experienced a severe acute gout attack within the past two weeks or require colchicine and/or corticosteroid treatment 3. Abnormal kidney and liver function (defined as alanine aminotransferase [ALT], aspartate aminotransferase [AST], and creatinine [Cr] levels exceeding 1.5 times the upper limit of normal) 4. Active peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal malignancy 5. Abnormal blood counts (e.g., white blood cell count < 4.0 × 10?/L, platelet count < 100 × 10?/L, haemoglobin < 90 g/L) or other blood disorders 6. Type 1 diabetes or poorly controlled Type 2 diabetes (fasting blood glucose = 8.5 mmol/L) 7. Use of medications that affect UA metabolism or excretion, such as sulfasalazine, thiazide diuretics, and prednisone 8. Infectious diseases requiring antibiotic treatment 9. History of allergy to lactobacilli or their products
