Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: MDD enrolment criteria: 1.Meet the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition (DSM-5) criteria for depression; 2.Age 18-65 years old; 3.No physical disease; 4.No substance abuse or dependence; 5.No suicidal thoughts or behaviors. HC enrolment criteria:1.No history of mental illness; 2.Age 18-65 years old; 3.Not pregnant or breastfeeding.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Exclude persons who meet the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, mental retardation, generalized developmental disorder, delirium, dementia, memory impairment, or other cognitive impairment; 2. Exclude patients with serious unstable physical diseases, diagnosed diabetes, thyroid disease, hypertension, heart disease, etc; 3. Exclude patients with a history of epilepsy, except febrile convulsions; 4. Exclude pregnant or lactating women, or those planning pregnancy; 5. Exclude those who have contraindications with MRI scanning; 6. Exclude those who have had MECT within 6 months.
