Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria: Participants must be enrolled university students, aged 18 years or older. The study uses the Beck Depression Inventory, Second Edition (BDI-II) and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) to assess the level of depression in applicants. Participants with BDI-II scores between 13 and 29 and PHQ-9 scores between 5 and 14 are invited to join the study if they have mild to moderate depression. If a participant’s score on one scale exceeds the threshold for severe depression, but their score on the other scale is below the threshold for mild depression, they will also be included. The psychology center’s full-time faculty at the participant’s university will verify the inclusion of participants, ensuring that they do not have major mental illnesses and are not key focus subjects in crisis management.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria: Participants who are screened as having no depressive symptoms based on both the BDI-II and PHQ-9 scales, those currently taking antidepressant medications, individuals with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or substance abuse, and participants who score 5 on the PTSD brief diagnostic scale will be excluded. For ethical and safety reasons, participants with suicidal thoughts are also excluded. Participants who score more than 2 on PHQ-9 item 9 ("Have you had thoughts of being better off dead or of hurting yourself in some way?") or select "I want to commit suicide" or "If I had the chance, I would commit suicide" on BDI-II item 9 will be considered as potentially having suicidal thoughts.
