Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) meeting the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) diagnostic criteria for moderate-to-severe mental retardation; (2) not having any physical illnesses, such as heart disease or epilepsy, that would seriously interfere with participation in physical activities; (3) informed consent from the parents and the students themselves.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) have any physical disability; (2) have a predisposition that may interfere with study results (e.g., genetic syndromes); (3) have a contraindication to PA (e.g., severe heart disease); (4) have participated in another obesity or fitness-related program in the past 4 weeks; (5) have other serious mental disorders that interfere with the understanding of the instructions.
