Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion Criteria for Depression Group: 1. Meet the diagnostic criteria for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) as defined by the DSM-5; 2. Of Han Chinese ethnicity, both genders included; 3. Aged between 18 and 55 years; 4. Education level of junior high school or above; 5. Normal or corrected-to-normal vision in both eyes, no color blindness, and right-handed; 6. Voluntary participation in this study. Inclusion Criteria for Healthy Control Group: 1. No personal or family history of any psychiatric disorders; 2. Of Han Chinese ethnicity, both genders included; 3. Aged between 18 and 55 years ; 4. Education level of junior high school or above; 5. Normal or corrected-to-normal vision in both eyes, no color blindness, and right-handed; 6. Voluntary participation in this study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion Criteria for Depression Group: 1. Meet the diagnostic criteria for other DSM-5 disorders, such as schizophrenia; 2. Presence of poorly controlled severe physical illnesses, such as coronary heart disease or thyroid dysfunction; 3. History of traumatic brain injury leading to loss of consciousness or epilepsy; 4. Presence of uncorrectable visual or auditory impairments; 5. Significant motor dysfunction in the fingers (e.g., inability to press buttons); 6. Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to conceive; 7. Individuals who have undergone electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) or modified electroconvulsive therapy (MECT) within the past 6 months; 8. Refusal to sign the informed consent form. Exclusion Criteria for Healthy Control Group: 1. Presence of poorly controlled severe physical illnesses, such as coronary heart disease or thyroid dysfunction; 2. History of traumatic brain injury leading to loss of consciousness or epilepsy; 3. Presence of uncorrectable visual or auditory impairments; 4. Significant motor dysfunction in the fingers (e.g., inability to press buttons); 5. Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to conceive; 6. Refusal to sign the informed consent form.
