Interventions

HMB + Exercise:Participants were instructed to take active products including 1500 mg calcium-HMB and 12 g whey protein per day
Participants allocated to the exercise programs were provided 45 min of supervised sessions on 2 nonconsecutive days per week
Placebo + Exercise:Participants were instructed to take active products including equal in quality resistant dextrin per day
HMB + Education:Participants were instructed to take active products including 1500 mg calcium-HMB and 12 g whey protein per day
Participants were given health education and educational manuals.
Placebo + Education:Participants were instructed to take active products including equal in quality resistant dextrin per day

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged 60–80 ; 2. Diagnosis of T2DM 3. Met a reference value for low muscle mass defined by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) criteria

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Individuals who had an organic disease of the nervous system; 2. Who were restricted from engaging in exercise by a medical doctor; 3. Who was unconscious and unable to complete the questionnaire; 4. Who used other supplementations for muscle mass gain; 5. Who had impaired cardiac, kidney, or liver function.
