Interventions

Exercise intervention group:30 minutes of supervised high-intensity interval exercise, during which subjects wore a heart rate belt to monitor their heart rate, with a high-intensity interval exercise
pre- and post-exercise periods included 5 minutes each of dynamic stretching and warming up.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Asymptomatic (no history or symptoms of cardiovascular disease) adults, people with prediabetes, and people with T2DM; age 40-70 years; people with T2DM meet World Health Organization (WHO) 1999 diagnostic criteria; stable medication for at least 3 months (e.g., antihypertensive, hypoglycemic, and lipid-lowering medications); and diagnosis of prediabetes meets WHO 1999 criteria and American Diabetes Association (ADA) 2022 criteria. The diagnostic criteria for prediabetes are in accordance with the WHO 1999 criteria and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) 2022 criteria. Changes in post-diabetes biomarkers and cardiorespiratory endurance, cardiac ultrasound indices, and other factors that may be associated with post-diabetes.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Presence of renal disease, retinopathy, neurological disease, orthopaedic disease, oncological disease, or pulmonary disease that precludes exercise testing; and/or cardiovascular disease (e.g., valvular disease, coronary artery disease, congenital heart disease, respiratory distress symptoms, or chest pain; malignant neoplasm, or other major systemic disease); type 1 diabetes mellitus; HbA 1c > 9.5% or fasting blood glucose (FPG) > 15.0 mmol/L (270 mg/dL); history of diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar state; systolic blood pressure (SBP) > 180 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) > 95 mmHg.
