Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Case group inclusion criteria: (1) Case group: patients who visited the psychiatric department of our hospital from March to November, 2020 (excrement and blood samples were collected before psychiatric treatment); (2) meet the diagnostic criteria of ICD-11 for Catatonia (Catatonia: 6A40), and are currently in the onset stage of catatonia; (3) aged from 18 to 60 years old (including 18 and 60 years old); (4) Han nationality; (5) body mass index (BMI) within the normal range (18.5 kg/m2 < BMI < 23.9 kg/m^2) Control group inclusion criteria: The healthy control group was recruited in a 1:1 ratio after matching the demographic and other general characteristics of the case group from the healthy population. (1) aged from 18 to 60 years old (including 18 and 60 years old); (2) Han nationality; (3) body mass index (BMI) within the normal range (18.5 kg/m2 < BMI < 23.9 kg/m^2)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Case group exclusion criteria: (1) Complicated with serious physical diseases, including unstable vital signs, aneurysm, pulmonary embolism, heart failure, etc.; (2) pregnant or lactating; (3) patients previously or currently diagnosed with hepatobiliary diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, endocrine and immune system diseases, metabolic diseases, blood diseases, heart, lung and nervous system diseases; (4) patients with allergic reactions and hormone therapy in the past 8 weeks or currently, or using antibiotics, antioxidants, immunosuppressants, or taking microbial agents; (5) Stressful life events within one year before the onset of the disease. Exclusion criteria for control group: (1) suffering from mental illness including but not limited to substance abuse/dependence, mental retardation, dementia, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, personality disorder, autism, tourette syndrome, etc.; (2) pregnant or lactating; (3) patients previously or currently diagnosed with hepatobiliary diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, endocrine and immune system diseases, metabolic diseases, blood diseases, heart, lung and nervous system diseases; (4) patients with allergic reactions and hormone therapy in the past 8 weeks or currently, or using antibiotics, antioxidants, immunosuppressants, or taking microbial agents; (5) having stressful life events in the past 1 year.
