18 Years to 75 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Non-septic Group (1) Age >= 18 years; (2) APACHE II score >8 points; (3) No evidence of infection; (4) No obvious evidence of organ dysfunction, primarily consisting of patients undergoing major surgical procedures (e.g., general surgery, orthopedic surgery); (5) Hemodynamically stable without the use of vasoactive agents; (6) Voluntary participation with signed informed consent. Septic Shock Group (1) Age >= 18 years; (2) Meeting the Sepsis-3 diagnostic criteria; (3) Patients in the acute phase of septic shock; (4) Voluntary participation with signed informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) A prior clear diagnosis of significant carotid atherosclerotic plaques (e.g., IMT > 1.2 mm or plaque formation) along with severe condition; (2) Concomitant severe cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia, congenital heart disease, or other conditions that may significantly affect hemodynamics; (3) Concomitant active hepatic or renal failure or other severe systemic diseases (e.g., advanced malignant tumors); (4) Poor ultrasound image quality that precludes reliable speckle tracking analysis; (5) Pregnant or lactating women (as hormonal changes may affect vascular status); (6) Withdrawal from the study or inability to complete follow-up for other reasons.
