Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Histologically confirmed esophageal cancer with distant metastasis. 2. Tumor type of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma. 3. Received curative esophageal cancer surgery with R0 resection. 4. No prior anticancer treatments (excluding neoadjuvant therapy). 5. Clear preoperative and postoperative TNM staging (according to AJCC standards). 6. No history of other malignant tumors. 7. Complete clinical, blood parameter, and follow-up data. 8. Follow-up duration of at least 6 months, with sufficient data to evaluate recurrence and metastasis.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Presence of other malignant tumors or systemic diseases (e.g., tuberculosis, HIV infection) or death during the perioperative period. 2. Received preoperative or postoperative targeted therapy, immunotherapy, etc. 3. Postoperative death due to non-cancer-related causes (e.g., cardiovascular events). 4. R1 or R2 resection patients. 5. Missing key variables (e.g., tumor staging, time of metastasis occurrence). 6. Incomplete follow-up information. 7. Presence of other severe chronic diseases (e.g., heart disease, liver dysfunction) before or after surgery, leading to the inability to undergo long-term follow-up. 8. Follow-up duration less than 6 months.
