Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Experienced at least one severe ankle sprain within one year prior to participating in this study, accompanied by symptoms such as pain and swelling on the affected side; 2. Felt a sense of giving way or instability in one ankle two or more times within one year of participating in this study; 3. Achieved a score of <=27 on the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT); 4. The contralateral ankle had no history of sprains, giving way, or instability.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (i) previous fracture or surgery of the lower extremity; (ii) known instability of other joints of the trunk or lower extremity; (iii) generalized neuromuscular disorders, abnormal functioning of the vestibular system, or visual deficits; (iv) mechanical instability of the ankle (positive results of the anterior ankle drawer test and the talus tilt test); (v) bilateral functional ankle instability.
