Interventions

Motivational Interviewing with Photovoice:The MI–Photovoice enhanced intervention enhanced the MI–only intervention by incorporating Photovoice in the following ways: (a) by encouraging participants
(b) by engaging participants in discussion about their selected photographs from Session 2 to 4 using the adapted SHOWeD approach .

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (a) aged 55 years and over, (b) Chinese-speaking, and (c) living alone, or living only with a spouse or partner within a community in Hong Kong.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (a) requiring intensive care (i.e., with an IADL average item score 2), and (b) having severe cognitive, visual, and auditory impairment that would lead to inability to complete the intervention and assessment.
