Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: The elderly in the community are aged than or equal to 65 years old (1) Hand grip strength. For men: positive if grip strength is = 12 s for both sexes. If conditions (1) or(2) are met, participants will be considered as having possible sarcopenia.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria were the following: (1) cognitive impairment (Mini-Mental State Examination [MMSE] score < 27 points) and could not cooperate and complete the study; (2) unstable cardiovascular diseases, neuromuscular diseases, musculoskeletal deformity, symptomatic rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or deep venous thrombosis (DVT); (3) regular moderate or intense physical activities (no more than three times per week and no longer than 30 min per exercise); (4) surgery within 1 month; (5) participated in other studies of exercise interventions concurrently; and (6) unsuitable to participate in the research(assessed by Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire [PARQ], ‘Yes’ to at least one of the seven questions of PAR-Q). In addition, individuals were considered as having dropped out of this study if they (7) quit the study spontaneously; (8) showed poor compliance (<80% of the scheduled exercise times) and did not participate in the training for more than 2 weeks; and (9) showed poor physical conditions that were not suitable for participating in exercises and could not meet the required exercise intensity for more than 3 weeks during the training. For participants who dropped out of the study, the researchers enquired and recorded the reasons and time for quitting.
