Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) At least 12 months since the initial ankle sprain and a history of at least 1 major ankle sprain i.e., severe pain, swelling, and restriction of activity for at least one day; (2) One or more ankle sprains in the last 6 months; (3) Repeated 'tenderness' and 'unstable' 'give way' of the injured ankle joint during motion, as evidenced by uncontrolled or unpredictable inversion of the ankle joint; (4) A self-assessment score of less than 24 on the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT).
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) The presence of a prior history of surgery or fracture of the lower extremity; (2) Acute injury to the musculoskeletal structures of other joints of the lower extremity that has resulted in at least one day of restricted activity within the last 3 months; (3) Inability to complete a positive digit breadth task (4 digits).
