Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All participants should meet the following inclusion criteria: (a) Cantonese-speaking; (b) the primary caregiver of a child who had been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum; (c) resilience scores less than 80 on the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-Chinese Version (CD-RISC-25-Chinese), to avoid ceiling effects (Connor & Davidson, 2003); (d) had not been diagnosed with any psychiatric disorders, including but not limited to anxiety disorder, depression, and schizophrenia. Additional inclusion criteria for children included: (a) aged from four to 11 years (inclusive); (b) had been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum; (c) had no severe childhood illness, such as cerebral palsy, stroke, or Rett syndrome. If the parents have more than one autistic child within the study’s age range, they are asked to focus on the child who exerted the most impact on their family (Rillotta et al., 2012).
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Parents are excluded if: (a) they have a severe psychiatric diagnosis that required specific care; (b) their children have other severe physical and emotional diagnoses in addition to ASD.
