Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Recipients of peer support services The peer support service recipients in this study are individuals who are currently affected by the affectivity of mental disorders and should meet the following inclusion criteria: 1.1 Inclusion Criteria 1. age: 18-60 years old; 2. severe mental disorders: individuals diagnosed with severe mental disorders according to the ICD-10 diagnostic criteria, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, and major depressive disorder, with supporting diagnoses; 3. symptoms of the mental disorder significantly interfere with daily functioning, including at home, work, school, and socially (self-reported); 4. the individual or his/her legally authorised representative (LAR) agrees to participate in this study and signs an informed consent form. 2. Peer supporters Peer support participants in this study are individuals who are currently experiencing a mental illness, but whose condition/symptoms are relatively stable.The inclusion criteria are listed below: 2.1 Inclusion criteria: 1. age: 18-60 years old; 2. diagnosed with a mental disorder that meets the ICD-10 diagnostic criteria, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder and major depressive disorder, with proof of diagnosis; 3. Currently in a stable condition and in a state of recovery; 4. voluntarily agree to participate in the study and sign an informed consent form. 3. Social Work Supervisors Supervisors participating in this study were social workers. Inclusion criteria: 1. certified social workers (intermediate or above); 2. experience in providing personalised casework services to individuals with mental disorders in the community; 3. voluntarily agreed to participate in this study and signed an informed consent form.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for those receiving peer support services Participants with the following conditions are temporarily excluded from this study: 1. currently participating in another peer support programme; 2. have alcohol or drug dependence/abuse problems; 3. have a serious physical illness, hearing or visual impairment; 4. have had an incident of self-harm or suicide within the past month that required further medical intervention; 5. expect to be away from Guangzhou for an extended period of time during the study. Peer supporter exclusion criteria: 1. currently participating in another peer support programme; 2. have alcohol or drug dependence/abuse problems; 3. have a serious physical illness, hearing or visual impairment; 4. have had an incident of self-harm or suicide within the past month that required further medical intervention; 5. have not passed the peer support training assessment. Social Worker Supervisor Exclusion Criteria: 1. unwillingness or inability to complete required supervisory training; 2. inability to continue participation in the programme for a period of two years.
