Interventions

Lo-TENS therapy:Participants were sitting in a comfortable chair. After cleaning the skin, Lo-TENS therapy (KD-2A, Yaoyang Kangda Electronic Instrument Co., Ltd, Beijing, China) was performed. One 5 X
waveform, bidirectional asymmetric square wave
frequency 2 Hz. The stimulation intensity (mA) was adjusted according to the patient’s sensation, slight muscle contraction was allowed, but pain or any discomfort was avoided.
Sham stimulation group:Participants in the control group received the sham stimulation, i.e., only the electrodes were placed, but no actual treatment.

60 Years to 80 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) aged between 60 and 80 years; 2) with the coexistence of three chronic conditions (EH, T2DM, and hyperlipidemia) at least 1 year; 3) medically stable; 4) able to follow 3-step commands; 5) signed an informed consent form.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) contraindications to electrical stimulation therapy, such as wearing a cardiac pacemaker, metal implants, scars, bruises, scratches or inflammation on the skin of treatment area, a previous history of epilepsy, tumor, etc; 2) except the routine pharmacy to control the multiple chronic conditions, use of other pharmacy that affect blood pressure, blood sugar, and/or lipids in the previous 2 months (glucocorticoids, central nervous system inhibitors, etc.); 3) severe cognitive or speech impairment; 4) other serious illnesses that influenced blood pressure, blood sugar, and/or lipids; 5) participation in another clinical trial within the past two months.
