Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1.(i) middle-aged and elderly men in the community; 2.(ii) completes the IPSS score and AMS questionnaire; 3.(iii) participated in routine physical examination and the prostate examination; 4.(iv) completed the detection of sex hormones and single nucleotide polymorphisms of genes related to sex hormone metabolism; 5.(v) completed the blood PSA detection and routine biochemical index detection.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.(i) when a PSA greater than 4ng/ml were encountered, a prostate biopsy was required provided that the criteria for prostate biopsy were met, and the diagnosis of prostate cancer was excluded before participants could be recruited into this study; 2.(ii) to minimize latent confounding factors and bias, the participants who had a history of prostate or urethral surgery, those who had been diagnosed with urologic diseases, including prostatitis, epididymitis, orchitis, testicular tumor, testicular tuberculosis, testicular trauma, testicular absence, cryptorchidism, urethral stricture, urologic infections, malignancy, or neurogenic bladder; 3.(iii) and those who had been taking medicine, including anticholinergics, 5a-reductase inhibitors, phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors, and hormone replacement therapy were excluded from the study.
