Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) Patients aged 60 years and above, meeting all inclusion criteria, with no upper age limit. (2) Patients who are conscious and able to communicate effectively in Sichuan dialect or Mandarin. (3) Patients with increased secretion of saliva or phlegm in the oral cavity, who are unable to effectively clear the saliva or phlegm themselves and require suction by a nurse or need to be wiped and cleaned with tissues by a caregiver or themselves. (4) Patients who, after health education, are able to safely use a suction device on their own. (5) Patients who voluntarily agree to participate in the study throughout its duration.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) Patients with large oral tumors or other conditions that prevent the safe and effective use of suction catheters to remove saliva or phlegm. (2) Patients with tracheal intubation or other factors requiring professional nursing staff for suctioning. (3) Patients with poor compliance who need supervision and guidance from nurses to perform saliva clearance. (4) Patients with cognitive or mental disorders such as dementia, delirium, or impaired consciousness. (5) Critically ill patients.
