Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with acute pain caused during postoperative rehabilitation of ankle fractures (within 1 month after surgery). Age 18-60 years old; patients with maximum pain score VAS=4 during rehabilitation; without any postoperative complications; signed informed consent and willing to participate in this study; patients were lucid and able to correctly understand and express the pain level using the visual analog pain scoring tool.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Contraindications to nitrous oxide inhalation (intestinal obstruction, hemodynamic instability, vitamin B12 deficiency, intracranial hypertension, epilepsy, severe facial fractures, drug abuse, alcoholism, severe mental illness or pregnancy, pulmonary embolism, pneumothorax, acute respiratory infections or chronic lung diseases, ear, nose, and throat diseases, such as sinusitis, otitis media, etc.); patients with confusion or inability to accurately express pain on VAS; patients with previous Multiple ankle injuries or multiple ankle surgeries.
