Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients aged =18 years with an American Society of Anaesthesiologists physical status (ASA) of I-IV who were scheduled to undergo abdominopelvic surgery under general anaesthesia (including gastric and intestinal tumour resections, hepatic resections, pancreatico-choledochotomy tumour resections, extensive hysterectomies, etc.). Participants were native Chinese speakers and were physically able to take the cognitive tests.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients with hepatic encephalopathy, patients who have undergone surgery in the past 12 months, patients with a history of intracranial or cerebrovascular disease, patients with carotid artery disease, patients with psychiatric disorders and on long-term psychotropic medication, patients who are aphasic at the time of the delirium assessment, or who die prior to the delirium assessment.
