Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Age 20 and above, with fine needle aspiration biopsy confirming papillary thyroid carcinoma (classic type); 2. Ultrasound examination suggesting a single nodule located in the thyroid gland, with a maximum diameter not exceeding 1.0 cm; 3. Treatment and follow-up are conducted at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital throughout the entire process; 4. After thorough communication with the attending physician, the patient gives informed consent and autonomously chooses the treatment method (surgical operation, ablation, or active surveillance).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Suspicious metastatic lymph nodes found on imaging; 2. Invasion of the capsule visible on imaging; 3. Tumor located in the isthmus; 4. Abnormal contralateral vocal cord function related to the lesion; 5. Coagulation abnormalities or hematopoietic system disorders; 6. Impaired function or failure of important organs; 7. Patients with a history of mental illness.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Recurrent, metastatic, progressive (lesion growth =3 mm) or death within 5 years, composite endpoint, time-to-event;

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Invasion of surrounding tissues by breakthrough of the prostatic capsule without lesion growth of at least 3 mm within 5 years;Occurrence of de novo malignant thyroid neoplasms in other sites within 5 years;Occurrence of severe complications (such as vocal cord paralysis, recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, hypothyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, formation of hematoma and infection within the surgical wound, lymphatic leakage or chyle fistula) following surgery or ablation therapy in the patient;
