Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients who underwent major abdominal surgery (gastrectomy, intestinal resection, hepatectomy, pancreatotomy, or combined procedures, either laparoscopic or open surgery) under general anesthesia at our hospital between January 2018 and March 2024 were included in this study (the selected date range is based on the availability of complete data relevant to this research). The inclusion criteria were as follows: patients aged = 50 years, those who had their carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) measured within 6 months before or after surgery, and those with at least one serum creatinine (sCr) result within 30 days before and 7 days after surgery. For patients who underwent multiple surgeries during the study period, only the first surgery was included.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Emergency surgery, outpatient surgery, day surgery, transplant surgery, procedures involving the reproductive or urinary systems, preoperative end-stage renal disease (eGFR < 15 ml/min/1.73 m²), history of kidney transplant or dialysis, preoperative heart failure, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Physical Status Classification V-VI, and missing preoperative or postoperative data (age, sex, weight, height, preoperative albumin, preoperative hemoglobin, surgery duration, intraoperative fluid volume, intraoperative urine output, postoperative serum creatinine, etc.).
