Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) age >65 years; (2) fulfilling the diagnostic criteria for PHN [5]; (3) persistent severe pain, i.e., Numeric Rating Scale pain score =6, accompanied by localised cutaneous nociceptive hypersensitivity, numbness, or sensory abnormality; and (4) poor control of the pain with medication.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) local infection at the treatment site; (2) coagulation disorders; (3) history of severe cardiopulmonary or hepatic or renal insufficiency; (4) severe thoracolumbar spinal stenosis, compression fracture, or scoliosis; (5) psychiatric disorders, inability or refusal to cooperate and refuse to participate; and (6) substance abuse.
