Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Age: 29 days to 18 years old; 2. All enrolled children met the modified version of World Health Organization (WHO) classification criteria for bacterial meningitis surveillance cases or the criteria for suspected encephalitis cases

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. cases of autoimmune encephalitis; 2. tumors with central nervous system involvement; 3. cases with bloody cerebrospinal fluid; 4. the volume of cerebrospinal fluid was less than 1ml;
