Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. 18-80 years old patients with complete case data; 2. preoperative imaging of rectal cancer that met the requirements for the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage T4b, 3. preoperative imaging showing tumor invasion of one or more organs adjacent to the rectum, 4. pathological confirmation of primary (recurrent) bowel cancer, 5. patients deemed suitable for local R0 resection based on MDT discussion, and 6. critically ill patients with the above conditions accompanied by an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) score of =3 or American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score of =3, with insufficiency of a major organ (e.g., the heart, brain, lung) but deemed fit for surgery based on MDT evaluation.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. patients with extensively metastasized or recurrent rectal cancer, 2. patients with rapidly progressing bowel cancer, 3. patients with multiple organ insufficiencies and deemed unfit for surgery based on MDT evaluation, 4. patients with concurrent primary tumors in other organs, 5. patients who refused MDT evaluation for preoperative neoadjuvant therapy, and 7. patients with lesions invading the sacrum 1 and 2.
