Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Healthy controls: Fasting blood glucose levels should be below 7.0 mmol/L, glycosylated hemoglobin levels should be below 6.2%, urinary protein should test negative, creatinine levels should be within normal range, and individuals should be matched in terms of gender and age with the T2DM group and DN group. T2DM: Inclusion criteria include: newly diagnosed T2DM patients without drug therapy; fasting blood glucose levels above 7.0 mmol/L; glycosylated hemoglobin levels above 7%; negative urinary protein; no abnormal creatinine or fundus examination results; normal or well-controlled blood pressure; and matching gender and age with the DN group. DN group: According to the expert consensus on the prevention and treatment of DN (2014 edition), individuals with urine microalbumin levels above 30 mg/L or a quantification of 24-hour urinary protein exceeding 0.5 g, along with diabetic retinopathy, well-controlled or without hypertension were included.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients aged below 25 years or above 75 years; patients with comorbidities associated with increased urinary protein excretion; patients receiving medications that impact urinary protein levels, such as ACE inhibitors or ARBs; patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders other than diabetes; patients who have experienced heart failure or stroke within the past three months; patients exhibiting alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels exceeding 2.5 times the upper limit of normal range; patients with a history of malignant neoplasms; patients diagnosed with refractory hypertension.
