Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) first appearance of pain in the face and jaw area; (2) duration of the disease 18 years; (5) native Chinese speaker with good comprehension and communication skills; and (6) voluntary participation in the study and signing of an informed consent form.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) clearly diagnosed boils, carbuncles, suppurative parotitis, and submandibular inflammation of the oral and maxillofacial region and other infections of the oral and maxillofacial glandular tissues; (2) clearly diagnosed tumours of the oral and maxillofacial region in the oral cavity, salivary glands, face, neck, and other locations; (3) other well-defined disorders in which pain in the oral and maxillofacial region is likely to be present; (4) persons with concomitant serious disabling diseases of the heart, liver, or kidneys; and (5) persons with a history of previous psychiatric disorders.
