Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: ? Patients met the diagnosis of functional constipation based on the Rome III diagnostic criteria for functional gastrointestinal disorders(patients experienced =2 complete spontaneous bowel movements (CSBMs) per week for more than 3 months); ? Aged between 18 to 75; ? Patients had not taken oral medcine for relieving constipation for at least 2 weeks except for emergency medication (glycerin or sorbitol enemas); had not received relevant acupuncture treatment or participated in any other trials in the past 3 months; ? Absence of skin lesions at the chosen acupoints and the adjacent skin areas.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: ? Constipation resulting from irritable bowel syndrome, medication side effects, or as a consequence of endocrine, metabolic, or neurological disorders, including postoperative cases; ? Patients have severe cardiovascular, liver, or kidney diseases; ? Patients who have cognitive impairment, aphasia, or mental health conditions and thus inable to communicate normally; ? Pregnant or lactating women, as well as women with fertility intentions ? Patients with acupuncture contraindication such as abdominal aortic aneurysm, hepatosplenomegaly, coagulation disorders, or taking anticoagulants like warfarin / heparin (excluding antiplatelet therapy with aspirin/clopidogrel); history of artificial pacemaker implantation; ? Patients who refuse to sign informed consent forms.
