Experimental group:Midpalatal suture osteotomy combined with microimplant-assisted rapid palatal expansion

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) Diagnosed with 5–12mm MTD based on the combined evaluation of both Yonsei Transverse Index on CBCT/CT and "Element III" of "The Six Elements of Orofacial Harmony" ("Andrews analysis") on dental cast; 2) Aged 18 to 45; 3) Midpalatal suture maturation belongs to stage D or E, according to the classification method proposed by Angelieri et al.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Presence of cleft lip and palate, severe craniofacial anomalies or sydromic conditions; 2) History of orthodontic or orthopaedic treatment; 3) History of maxillofacial trauma; 4) Moderate to severe periodontal disease; 5) Maxillary first premolar and/or first molar missing; 6) Pre-operative examination indicates unsuitability for surgery; 7) Unable to cooperate with treatment.
