Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) The subjects were all healthy patients aged 18–45 years with an indication for extraction of FHIM3M; (2) The impacted third molars were orally invisible: using the Winter classification, the teeth were horizontally impacted; using the Pell and Gregory classification, the teeth were level B or C, and Class II or III; (3) Patients had no history of systematic disease such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease; (4) Patients had normal mouth opening and they had not used antibiotics during the week before surgery; and (5) They had good medical compliance and cooperation with follow-up.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) patients who had contraindications to tooth extraction, local or systemic infection within the 4 weeks before tooth extraction, smokers, those with poor oral hygiene, severe periodontitis, coagulation disorders, patients who were pregnant or lactating, or with systemic disease or severely damaged organ function; (2) signs of local inflammation or pain one week before the procedure; (3) lack of complete clinical data; (4) intolerance of anaesthetic medications; and (5) the roots of the teeth were not completely formed .
