Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. The tooth was failed to root canal therapy and diagnosed as refractory chronic periapical periodontitis, accompanied by serious destruction of periapical bone tissues and delayed healing of fistula, 2. The root canals were obviously overfilled and accompanied with obvious discomfort; 3. Root canal calcification with periapical shadow could not be cured by routine root canal therapy or failed to the treatment, 4. Root canal therapy complications such as lateral perforation and instrument separation could not be cured by routine root canal therapy; 5. CBCT should be performed preoperatively and postoperatively with a follow-up of at least 1 year.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.The affected teeth had severe periodontal disease or root fracture, 2. The affected teeth were residual roots with no value of retention, 3. The patients had systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus that affected bone healing, 4.The patients were in the acute inflammatory stage, such as acute periapical periodontitis and acute osteomyelitis, 5. The patients with dentition defect on the same jaw as the affected teeth, 6. The patients who lost follow-up and incomplete case data were excluded.
