Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Control group ? Patients aged 20-70 ? Patients willing to reconstruct anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and needing to undergo inter-condyle fossa plasty ? Patients with no diagnosis of osteoarthritis which is confirmed by X-ray or MRI (Kellgren & Lawrence level <I) ? Patients consent to participate in the study, having signed the informed consent Single-compartmental OA group ? Patients aged 20-70 ? Patients diagnosed with genu varum by X-ray ? Patients with diagnosis of medial single compartmental osteoarthritis (Kellgren & Lawrence level III/IV) which is confirmed by X-ray ? Patients with severe pain, not alleviated by non-operative therapy, willing to undergo uni-compartmental or total knee arthroplasty ? Patients consent to participate in the study, having signed the informed consent Multi-compartmental OA group ? patients aged 20-70 ? Patients diagnosed with genu varum by X-ray ? Patients with diagnosis of multiple compartmental osteoarthritis (Kellgren & Lawrence level III/IV) which is confirmed by X-ray ? Patients with severe pain, not alleviated by non-operative therapy, willing to undergo total knee arthroplasty ? Patients consent to participate in the study, having signed the informed consent
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: ? Patients with psychosis or mental problem ? Patients with severe obesity (BMI>35) ? Patients diagnosed with autoimmune arthritis, gout, infectious arthritis or other types of arthritis ? Patients who are unable or unwilling to undergo rehabilitation ? Patients with severe ankylosis or knee fibrosis ? Patients with abnormal plasma/free calcium levels, severe primary CVD, lung disease, endocrinological and metabolic diseases, or other lethal disease including cancer or HIV, who are considered not suitable to be included ? Patients with other acute and chronic diseases who are considered not suitable to be included
