Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (a) Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who underwent initial transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in Lishui Hospital of Zhejiang University (April 1, 2016, to December 31, 2022), the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2021), and the Hangzhou First People’s Hospital (January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2021); HCC was confirmed by imaging examinations evaluation. Biopsy was carried out if the nodule did not indicate typical features in medical images. (b) Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) was performed before and after TACE; (c) Relevant clinical information was available (i.e. demographics, preoperative hepatitis, serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels, and liver function tests).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (a) Underage patients; (b) Synchronous therapies during follow-up time, such as resection, and systemic chemotherapy; (c) With other malignancies and follow-up for less than 3 months after the operation. (d) Very small region of interest (ROI) or patients with poor MRI image quality.
