Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Not in labor, age of 20–45 years, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status II, having followed the preoperative fasting guidelines (a minimum of 2 h for clear fluids, 6 h for a light meal, and 8 h for a meal that included fried or fatty food), and normal body temperature before surgery.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Body mass index (BMI) > 35 kg/m2; pregnancy combined with significant medical illness (e.g., thyroid disease, hypertension, diabetes, neuromuscular disease, etc.); mental or physical disability; re-existing abnormal anatomy of the upper gastrointestinal tract (e.g., previous lower esophageal, gastric or upper abdominal surgery, hiatal hernia) or other known gastric emptying disorders; airway examination that revealed risk factors for difficult intubation (Mallampati class 3 or 4, interincisor distance 10.3 cm2; maternal refusal.
