Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Criteria for inclusion of children with ASD: (1) Ages between 6 and 15 years old (2) At least one parent is major caregiver (3) Diagnosed with "autism spectrum disorder" based on DSM-V diagnostic criteria by experienced doctors of the Child Developmental Behavior Center of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, (4) Both SRS parent and teacher questionnaires scores higher than cut-off score (5) Able to complete the entire assessment process 2. Criteria for inclusion of typically developing children: (1) Ages between 6 and 15 years old (2) At least one parent is major caregiver (3) No social, emotional, behavioral or hyperactivity symptoms (4) Both SRS parent and teacher questionnaires scores lower than cut-off score.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The ASD group and the typically developing children share the same exclusion criteria: (1) Total IQ (based on Wechsler Child Intelligence Test) less than 80 or VIQ less than 80 (2) Rett syndrome, fragile X syndrome or other syndromic autism (3) Severe mood disorders, anxiety disorders, childhood schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders (4) Visual impairment, hearing impairment or physical disability (5) intellectual disability caused by secondary brain injuries, nodular sclerosis, phenylketonuria, etc
