Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Case enrollment criteria (all to be met) (1) Patients between the ages of 18 and 65 years (including 18 and 65 years), regardless of gender; (2) Currently meeting the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-5) diagnostic criteria for major depressive disorder or bipolar disorder (confirmed by M.I.N.I. 7.0.2), and the patient was currently experiencing a depressive episode and was not experiencing psychotic symptoms; (3) HAMD-17 total score >17 and YMRS <6 at enrollment; (4) No physical therapy such as MECT therapy or repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy within 14 days before enrollment; (5) Primary school education or above, able to understand the scale and the study content; (6) The patients themselves and/or their guardians signed an informed consent form. Healthy control enrollment criteria (all need to meet) (1) Age 18-65 years (including 18 and 65 years) , regardless of gender; (2) No previous or current established diagnosis of mental disorder through M.I.N.I. 7.0.2 screening; (3) Elementary school education or higher; (4) Informed consent signed by the subject himself/herself and/or his/her guardian.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Case exclusion criteria (1) Previous diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and mental disorders associated with other diseases; (2) Previous or current organic brain damage such as epilepsy or other diseases with the presence of random brain discharge phenomena; or severe physical illnesses the investigator considers unsuitable for enrollment in this study; (3) History of alcohol or psychoactive substance abuse or dependence within 1 year. Exclusion Criteria for Healthy Controls (1) Previous or current organic brain damage, such as epilepsy, or other diseases with random brain discharges; or serious physical illnesses that the investigator considers unsuitable for enrollment in this study; (2) Long-term use of painkillers, tranquilizers, sleep medications, cortisol drugs, antiepileptic drugs, medications for high blood pressure and heart disease; (3) Those with a positive family history of mental disorders within two lines and three generations.
