Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: The diagnosis was confirmed by the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-V (SCID-5; First et al., 2015) by a clinical psychologist. The 17-item version of the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS; Hamilton, 1967) was administered at the pre-test to assess the severity of depression. Inclusion criteria were: 1) meeting the DMS-5 diagnostic criteria for depression; 2) a BDI-II scale score greater than 14; and 3) an HDRS score greater than 7.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria included psychotic disorder, organic brain disease, high risk of self-harm or suicide, current substance abusers, those receiving other psychological or pharmacological treatment, and scores of 45 and above on the Beck Anxiety Inventory-Chinese Version (excluding anxiety co-morbidities).
