Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Confirmed pathology of esophageal squamous carcinoma or adenocarcinoma (pathological staging based on the eighth edition of UICC TNM staging), undergoing minimally invasive esophagectomy (McKeown or Ivor Lewis) or open esophagectomy, age between 18 and 80 years, performance status of 0 or 1, and good cardio-pulmonary function as indicated by an American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score of less than 4.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Incomplete follow-up data or loss to follow-up, a history of other primary malignant tumors, neoadjuvant therapy prior to surgery, tumor invasion into nearby organs, and distant metastasis.
