Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1)Community-dwelling older adults aged?60 years; 2)diagnosed with untreated adult-onset bilateral hearing impairment, defined as a better-hearing ear 4-frequency pure tone average (PTA) =30dBHL & =70 dBHL (at frequencies 500,1000,2000 and 4000 Hz); 3)MMSE scores of >17, >20, >22 and >24 for subjects with education level of illiterate, primary school, middle school and university or above, respectively; 4)signed informed consent to participate in baseline and subsequent follow-up assessments.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1)had difficulty in =2 activities of daily living; 2)did not meet the WHO guidelines for wearing hearing aids (e.g. tympanic membrane perforation, abnormal auditory chain, auditory nerve tumours, Meniere's syndrome); 3)had received or are receiving some kind of hearing intervention within the past year; 4)Who were unwilling to wear their hearing aids on a regular basis (daily or almost daily); 5)had conductive hearing impairment. 6)had severe disability syndrome, such as advanced cancer, end-stage lung disease, brain surgery experience, and pontine and cerebellar occupying lesions. 7)had mania, psychosis, alcohol abuse or dependence, and acute suicide risk during the 6 months before the study.
