Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Part one Functional and morphological changes in red blood cells 123 patients with type 2 diabetes admitted to the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University from September 2023 to September 2024 were selected (inclusion criteria met WHO 1999 diagnostic criteria for diabetes and glycosylated haemoglobin fluctuations of no more than 1% in the 3 months prior to admission); 123 patients with sepsis in combination with type 2 diabetes (inclusion criteria sepsis sepsis 3.0 diagnostic criteria. meeting WHO 1999 diagnostic criteria for diabetes mellitus, with glycosylated haemoglobin fluctuations of no more than 1% in the 3 months prior to admission) and 123 healthy physicals selected as controls during the same period. Part two Erythrocyte subpopulation identification and functional analysis 3 patients with type 2 diabetes admitted to the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University from September 2023 to September 2024 were selected (inclusion criteria met WHO 1999 diagnostic criteria for diabetes and glycosylated haemoglobin fluctuations of no more than 1% in the 3 months prior to admission); 3 patients with sepsis in combination with type 2 diabetes (inclusion criteria sepsis sepsis 3.0 diagnostic criteria. meeting WHO 1999 diagnostic criteria for diabetes mellitus, with glycosylated haemoglobin fluctuations of no more than 1% in the 3 months prior to admission) and 3 healthy physicals selected as controls during the same period.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (i) age <18 years; (ii) malignancy; (iii) acquired immunodeficiency syndrome; (iv) autoimmune system disease; (v) receiving immunosuppressive treatment; (vi) those who withdrew from the study midway. (vii) Exclusion of diseases and drug users that may affect the morphology, function, physicochemical properties and immune function of red blood cells;
