Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: a) were 60-74 years old attending one of the eight selected elderly centers; b) had the ability to walk eight meters without assistance; c) were not performing ST regularly; and d) were willing to take part in a 6-month intervention and a follow-up evaluation three months afterwards.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1) neurological disease which impairs mobility, cardiovascular disease which results in shortness of breath or angina on walking up one flight of stairs, 2) cognitive impairment; 3) having active osteoarthritis pain; and 4) visited more than one elderly centre in the last three months. Participants’ cognitive function will be screened by the Chinese Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), those who scored below 24 will be excluded.
