Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: From July 1, 2022 to December 31, 2025, 100 patients with type 2 diabetes without microvascular complications, 100 patients with type 2 diabetes combined with diabetic nephropathy (diabetic nephropathy stage 4) and 100 patients with type 2 diabetic retinopathy (diabetic retinopathy stage 4) treated at the Department of Endocrinology, Dalian Central Hospital (age, sex, disease duration and HbA1C matched) were included, while 100 healthy individuals (age and sex matched) from Dalian Physical Examination Centre were selected as study subjects.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Excluded are diseases and drug users that may affect the morphology, function, physicochemical properties and immune function of red blood cells; those with severe ketosis and other complications; those with chronic systemic diseases, tumors, acute and chronic infections, major cardiac, cerebral and renal diseases, anemia; hematologic diseases associated with hemolysis, use of antibiotics, immunosuppressants and anti-platelet coagulation drugs. Some diseases that affect the oxygen-carrying function of red blood cells, such as obstructive sleep apnea hypoventilation syndrome, COPD, pulmonary embolism, acute exacerbation of asthma, interstitial lung disease, etc. Patients may receive insulin, oral hypoglycemic agents or lifestyle and diet modifications. Stable blood glucose control. Glycosylated hemoglobin fluctuates no more than 1% in the three months prior to admission and two consecutive times prior to admission.
