Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1) Aged =65 years old; 2) American society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Grade I-III; 3) Elective major abdominal surgery (expected duration =2 hours) and stay in the ward postoperatively; 4) provision of a signed informed consent form.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1) Preoperative sleep disorder (AIS=6); 2) Sick sinus syndrome, severe bradycardia (<50 beats/min), second degree or more atrioventricular block without pacemaker, severe cardiac insufficiency; 3) severe liver insufficiency (Child-Pugh grade C), renal failure; 4) Long-term use of opioids, sedatives, antidepressants, or anti-anxiety drugs; 5) History of schizophrenia, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease or myasthenia gravis; 6) Inability to communicate effectively.
