Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Male participants aged 18 to 40 years. 2. Participants with a BMI of =28 kg/m2. 3. Participants with a body fat percentage of =26% [9]. 4. Participants who do not engage in regular exercise (i.e. moderate-intensity exercise <150 minutes/week or high-intensity exercise <75 minutes/week). 5. Participants without diabetes or prediabetes. 6. Participants who do not take any medication or nutritional supplements that affect metabolism. 7. Participants without any physical disabilities or illnesses that affect physical activity.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Participants with a weight change of more than 2 kg within the last three months. 2. Participants with a fasting blood glucose level of =6.1 mmol/L. 3. Participants with a homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) >2.7. 4. Participants with a fasting total cholesterol (TC) level of =5.2 mmol/L, and/or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level of =3.4 mmol/L, and/or high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level of <1 mmol/L, and/or triglyceride (TG) level of =1.7 mmol/L. 5. Participants who smoke.
