Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: The indications included the following criteria: elective surgery, BMI= (30 kg/m2), aged 18-75 years, tumors located within 15 cm from the anal verge, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class I-III, no known relevant allergies, no past history of abdominal or thoracic surgery; no coincident procedures.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria were: massive tumor(> 7 cm), high BMI (> 30 kg/m2), ASA class > III, locally advanced tumor, synchronous primary tumors, metastatic disease, evidence for multiple disease sites, inability to fully mobilize preoperatively (eg, neurological or musculoskeletal diseases), acute bowel obstruction or perforation, anal stenosis, history of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy , emergency or agent surgery, additional surgery besides rectal resection. Patients who received low laparoscopic resection with ileostomy, converted to Hartmanns , radical abdominoperineal resection(APR) or open procedure were excluded from this study. Besides, patients with current or previous pulmonary diseases and those suffered from severe diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, myocardial infarction, or cerebrovascular diseases were also excluded, to avoid the possible influence of previous pulmonary disease on the study results.
