Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Selection criteria for cochlear implantation candidates: 1. Aged greater than 18 years; 2. Post-lingual deafness; 3. Severe to profound deafness on at least one side, meeting the indications for cochlear implantation. Selection criteria for previous cochlear implant participants: 1. Aged greater than 18 years; 2. Post-lingual deafness; 3. At least one-year post-cochlear implant surgery. Selection criteria for normal control participants: 1. Aged greater than 18 years; 2. Average hearing threshold less than 40dB at 0.5, 1, 2, and 4kHz in both ears.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Cochlear implantation candidacy exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with congenital hearing loss, language disorders, and visual impairments; 2. Patients with mental illnesses; 3. Clinically diagnosed dementia patients. Previous cochlear implant recipient exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with congenital hearing loss, language disorders, and visual impairments; 2. Patients with mental illnesses; 3. Clinically diagnosed dementia patients. Normal control exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with language disorders, and visual impairments; 2. Patients with mental illnesses; 3. Clinically diagnosed dementia patients.
