Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult patients diagnosed with esophageal cancer and underwent elective minimally invasive esophagectomy with thoracoscopy and laparoscopy were enrolled.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) patients diagnosed with cervical esophageal cancer; 2) patients with esophageal cancer recurrence, 3) patients who use glucocorticoids regularly before surgery, 4) patients who had an American Society of Anesthesiologists grade greater than class III patients; 5) who had COVID-19 a month before surgery or when they were hospitalized, 6) patients with change of operation method during surgery (eg. unresectable tumors found during surgery/conversion of thoracoscopy or laparoscopy to an open procedure), and 7) patients with missing data
