Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) 45 – 80 years old; (2) the first – ever stroke, and the time of since stroke onset = 3 months; (3) unilateral right or left sided stroke; (4) the score >24 on Mini-Mental State Examination;25 (5) had at least minimal antigravity movement in the affected upper limb; (6) had at least 5 degrees of wrist extension in the antigravity position; (7) without hemi-spatial neglect; (8) signed informed consent.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) with any active uncontrolled medical, cardiovascular, or orthopedic condition; (2) with a significant upper limb peripheral neuropathy; (3) had severe shoulder pain or wrist and finger contractures; (4) had contraindication to FES, such as skin allergy; (5) currently participating in any other clinical study or coach directed exercise program.
