Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria were: (1) independently ambulatory without assistive devices; (2) free of chronic medical problems, such as, Parkinson’s disease, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and chronic pain that would limit participation in low-to-moderate intensity exercise; (3) having 2 or more falls within the previous 12 months. A fall was defined as an event which results in a person coming to rest inadvertently on the ground or floor or other lower level (WHO); (4) agreeing to be randomly assigned to different groups and willingness to complete a 16-week training program.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria were: (1) prior Tai Chi experience (having participated in a Tai Chi training class or practiced Tai Chi regularly for at least 3 months); (2) involvement in any moderate or strenuous activity more than 2 times a week on average in the previous 3 months; (3) any fracture within the previous 6 months; (4) cognitive impairment (Mini-Mental State Examination score = 24) .
